내레이션. 지난 5월 14일, LA한국문화원과 밝은사회운동이 함께하는 <제37회 LAPD 대상 한국 역사·문화 워크숍>이 개최되었습니다.

자막. Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles and GCS Int’l presented a workshop titled “The 37th Korean American Cultural Experience for LAPD” on May 14th, 2018.

내레이션. 2008년 9월 첫 번째 워크숍을 시작한 이래 현재까지 1,579명의 경찰관계자들이 워크숍에 참가하였습니다.

자막. Since September 2008, 1579 LAPD officers and staff members have participated in this workshop.

내레이션. 이번 워크숍은 한국의 문화, 이민사, 언어 뿐 아니라 태권도 시연과 한국음식을 체험하는 다채로운 프로그램으로 구성되었습니다.

자막. The workshop included lectures related to Korean culture, immigration, and the Korean language. LAPD Officers also watched a Taekwondo performance and had some delicious Korean food.

질문. 오늘 태권도를 배워보셨는데 어떠셨나요?

답변. William Cooper / LAPD Hollywood Division

I’m officer William Cooper and I work Hollywood division of patrol. I have worked for LAPD for 5 years. Taekwondo is actually really fun. I noticed it requires a lot of disciplines and practicing of your technique. I can probably take classes as a way of de-stressing from work and just build comradery and learn more about the Korean culture.

자막. 저는 할리우드 순찰 지구대에서 근무하고 있는 윌리엄 쿠퍼라고 합니다. 5년 정도 근무하고 있구요. 태권도 정말 재밌었어요. 오늘 배워보니까, 태권도를 하기 위해 많은 훈련과 기술에 대한 숙달이 필요하다는 것을 느꼈어요. 태권도를 배우면서 직장 스트레스도 풀고 동료애도 쌓고, 한국 문화에 대해서도 더 알 수 있을 것 같아서 좋습니다.

질문. 오늘 한국에 대해 새롭게 배운 내용 중 기억나는 점을 말씀해주세요.

답변. Kimberly Gibson / LAPD Olympic Division

Hi, My name is Kimberly Gibson. I’m a Los Angeles Police Officer. I currently work in Olympic Police Division. I have been a LAPD for 11 yeares now. One of the new things I learned today was the history and what the Korean-American experience entailed, them coming here. And I think it’s very eye-opening and very interesting in learning their story because we all have story. We all come from different walks of life, in different places in the world. It was very interesting to really learn that and to be able to use it in my experience and interacting with Korean Americans in the future.

자막. 안녕하세요, 저는 킴벌리 깁슨이라고 하고 LAPD입니다. LAPD 근무한지 11년 정도 되었고 현재는 올림픽 경찰소에서 근무하고 있습니다. 오늘 한국의 역사와 함께 한국계 미국인들이 미국에 정착하기 까지 어떤 경험을 했는지에 대해 새롭게 알게 되었습니다. 몰랐던 것을 많이 알게 되었고, 그들의 이야기가 매우 흥미로웠습니다. 우리 모두 각자의 이야기를 갖고 다른 곳에서 이곳으로 모였죠. 이 모든 점들을 배울 수 있어서 아주 좋았고, 앞으로 만날 한국계 미국인들과 소통하는데 도움이 될 것 같아서 기쁘게 생각합니다.

자막. The purpose of the workshop is to help police officers understand Korean heritage and overcome cultural barriers.

자막. This workshop is important for the Korean community in LA because it can prevent misunderstandings or disadvantages that might occur due to cultural differences.
