[주LA한국문화원]Restoring Tradition 온고이지신-옛것을 새롭게 공연

12월 16일 금요일 LA한국문화원은 2016 공연작품 공모전 아리프로젝트의 열여섯번째 무대로 LA한국전통타악그룹 "놀이"와 함께하는 '온고이지신-옛것을 새롭게' 공연을 개최했습니다.
On Friday, December 16th, Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles presented “Restoring Tradition” with the group “Nori,” the LA Korean Traditional Percussion Group marking this the 16th Ari Project.

인터뷰:놀이 단장
사물놀이의 매력이라고 할 수 있는 것은 사물놀이는 가죽악기 둘 하고 금속악기 둘이 있는데요, 동양에서 말하는 음과 양의 조화를 이룹니다. 그래서 그것 뿐만 아니라 각자 악기가 서로 배려하고 서로 어울리고 또 작게 내고 크게 내고 그런 여러가지 반복적인 것을 통해서 갖고 있는 에너지를 막 끌어올리기도 하거든요.
굉장히 다이내믹하게 만들어내면서 그 에너지가 막 폭발할 때 그 폭발하는 것들을 딱 터뜨리고 마는 것이 아니라 한번 다시 감싸서 다시 시작하는 거에요. 그러니까 사물놀이를 좋아하는 매력은 뭐냐면, 어떤 카타르시스나 이런 걸 느끼고 끝나는 게 아니라 다시 다시 반복하게 하는 어떤 힘을 준다는 점에서 사물놀이가 다른 음악과는 달리 더 매력적인 것 같습니다.
The most admirable features of samulnori is the harmony between leather and metal instruments, and how they balance each other as yin and yang.? The instruments work together to synchronize, yet preserve its own unique sound at the same time, which brings out the energy of each instrument with low and high sounds.
The dynamic sounds don’t just stop with one impactful explosion, but the sounds wrap each other to continuously make music. Samulnori is a very appealing type of music because there’s no single catharsis to it, but instead has repeated melodies that bring out energy.

I'm here at the performance. It was marvelous and wonderful. I really felt the soul of Korean culture tonight here.
I believe when the purcussions elevated the sound, it took me in to the other world another place. So I did close my eyes, I did feel it in my body and the sound of the music is still with me to this day, so I'm really appreciated and I'm so glad that I'm able to come.
이번 공연을 위해 오게 되었어요. 한국 문화의 혼을 정말 느낄 수 있었던 밤이었고, 놀랍고 환상적인 무대였어요. 악기들의 소리가 점점 더 강해졌을때 저는 다른 세상에 와 있는 느낌이 들었어요. 그래서 눈을 감고 몸으로 소리를 느꼈어요. 아직도 그 느낌이 생생해요. 오길 정말 잘 했다는 생각과 함께 이런 음악을 들을 수 있어서 정말 감사한 밤이었네요.

It was really amazing. We love experiencing the Korean culture, and expecially that it takes us to folk music and you can feel the tradition.

I got excited. I got my adrenalin pumped out so I wanted to dance as well. I don't know about you.
여자
Yeah, yeah. I loved that aspect... it's like pounding... makes your heart beat, makes you feel good. makes you wanna dance.
정말 놀라웠어요. 한국 문화를 경험하는 것을 좋아하는 우리에게 이렇게 전통적인 음악은 너무 좋은 경험이었어요.
남자: 정말 신났었어요. 아드넬린이 막 솟구치고, 춤 추고 싶다는 생각이 들었어요. 넌 어땠어?
여자: 나도 그 부분이 정말 좋았어요. 막 두근두근 거리면서 심장이 빨리 뛰고, 춤 추고 싶을 만큼 기분이 좋았어요.
