내레이션. 지난 8월 3일, LA한국문화원은 2018 Ari Project의 아홉번째 무대로 이정임무용단을 선정하여 ‘아시안 아메리칸 드럼 페스티벌’ 공연을 개최하였습니다.

자막. The Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles and Jung Im Lee Korean Dance Academy had presented the 9th Ari Project series of this year at Ari Hall, titled, ‘Asian American Drum Festival’ on August 3rd, 2018.

북은 축제를 부르는 소리인데요. 각 커뮤니티들이 같이 교류하면서 친구가 되어서 즐기는 자리를 마련하고 싶어서 이렇게 마련하게 되었습니다.

자막. Drumming sound puts you in a festive mood, and I thought it’s more than appropriate to use this musical medium to build friendship among different communities, celebrating the differences we have as blessings.

So, Okinawan style drumming known as Eisa. Eisa is dancing with your Daiko. And we’re really excited to be here at the Korean Cultural Center to be able to show everyone here Okinawan style Daiko drumming rather than regular traditional Japanese drum.

자막. 오키나와 전통 북춤을 에이사라고 하는데요, 다이코라는 북과 함께 춤을 춥니다. 오늘 이 자리를 통해서 일반적인 일본 전통 북이 아닌 오키나와 전통 북춤을 보여드릴 수 있게 되어서 정말 기쁩니다.

Today, we’ll play the big drums named Davul. We have the small drums, Doumbeks and we have Gipsy dancers, Turkish gipsy dance. So our drums are from shamanism, and we will show shamanism dance.

자막. 오늘은 다불이라는 큰 북과 두벡스라는 작은 북을 연주할 거구요, 터키 집시 댄스를 선보일 겁니다. 터키 북은 샤머니즘에서 비롯됐어요, 샤머니즘 춤을 보여드릴겁니다.

질문. 공연 보신 소감에 대해서 말씀해주세요.

So, just the idea of the three different groups’ performing and being able to see the differences. I just was kind of excited about that.

자막. 각기 다른 문화적 배경을 가진 세 팀이 한 무대에서 공연하는 모습을 통해 그 차이점을 볼 수 있다는 것 자체가 매우 흥미로웠고, 신나는 경험이었습니다.

I’m from Alaska. One of my friends from highschool, she is a Daiko drumming instructor. But I’ve not really seen one of these shows in the past. I really enjoyed kind of seeing all of it, the costume, the choreography, all of that.

자막. 저는 알래스카에서 왔어요. 제 고등학교 친구 중 한명이 다이코를 가르치는데, 사실 한번도 이런 공연을 직접 본 적은 없었어요. 의상, 춤, 모든 요소들을 재미있게 잘 봤습니다.

I came here because I absolutely love drumming. This performance was so full of energy, fantastic, grace and beauty and wild energy. It was traditional and modern and everything, I loved it. And I can’t pick out of any part that I liked the best because I love it all. Each part was so different, so just very grateful to have been here, thank you.

자막. 워낙 북을 좋아해서 왔어요. 이번 공연은 정말 에너지가 넘쳤어요. 환상적이고, 우아하고 멋지면서도 힘이 넘쳤어요. 전통과 현대가 잘 어우러져서 가장 좋았던 부분을 생각하기가 어렵네요, 각 무대마다 개성이 있어서 전부 좋았거든요. 오늘 공연을 관람할 수 있어서 너무 기뻤어요, 감사합니다.
