About Culture Day

Culture Day, pause from daily life

Culture Day is the last wednesday 'and week' of every month, when various cultural benefits are
provided to make it easier for the public to enjoy culture in their daily lives.

What is “Culture Day”?

culture day is a day designated to guarantee "cultural rights" based on Article 12 (2) of the Framework Act on Culture. "Cultural rights" refers to the right of the people to freely create culture and participate in cultural activities without being discriminated against in cultural expressions and activities for the purpose of realizing cultural life by expanding the people's right to enjoy culture in their daily lives.

During the last Wednesday and week of every month, over 2,000 movie theaters, performance halls, museums, art galleries, cultural heritage sites and sports facilities across Korea are open to the public for discounted, free or late admission. In addition, customized projects (specialized) are being promoted to create cultural diversity and sustainable cultural ecosystems by realizing cultural decentralization and cultural autonomy, as well as bridging the cultural gap among regions by providing individuals with opportunities and experiences to enjoy culture.
