I’m Lindsay. I’m 30 years old.

I’m the vice president of the Ottawa BTS ARMY.

And I’m Jessica, I’m 23 years old.

And I’m the president and founder of BTS Ottawa.

For me, it was initially about the music.

It was really inspiring, the lyrics really spoke to me.

That was what I was listening to for several months

before I even discovered the music videos.

But once I did discover the music videos,

I realized that BTS really is the total ‘package.’

Amazing choreographies,

the most amazing lyrics,

Everything from debut up until now has always...

for me, been a ‘masterpiece.’

For myself, it was the music videos.

and music videos,

they are very different compared to what I

originally seen from the music in North America.

I don’t speak Korean very well, or at all.

Still the lyrics, the beats.. It also captures me.

And how much they love ARMY,

And how much ARMY loves them,

that’s really.. What makes me an ARMY,

and wanting to know more about BTS,

and ARMY themselves.

In November 2018,

I wondered if there’s any more BTS ARMY in Ottawa.

So I made ‘BTS Ottawa’, our twitter page.

Originally just for me to connect with fellow ARMY in Ottawa.

It wasn’t really anything, I wasn’t going to make events.

But then, I was learning that there was quite a fanbase here,

so we started doing different things.

And we have grown ever since then,

you know, just the way for everybody to connect with each other,

and share our love for BTS.

Not too long ago, we actually hosted a cup sleeve event

for Namjoon(RM) and Jungkook’s birthday.

We had about 152 people,

which is a very large amount of people.

We also had an entire selfie station for people to take pictures.

Lots of great props for people to take pictures with.

We also had episodes of ‘Run BTS’ and their music videos

up on a screen for people to watch.

I think that BTS brings a little bit

something different to the music industry.

Here, you know, we have western music.

I don’t think that a lot of our music has

the total package of what I call BTS.

You know, here, a lot of our lyrics are very artificial,

whereas when you hear or read the translated lyrics of BTS,

it doesn’t matter what your age is,

what your ethnicity is,

what gender you are,

where are you come from,

who you are,

I think that you can really...

have a touching point with the lyrics of BTS.

BTS was my first experience of K-POP,

before that, I really enjoyed western music,

because that’s what I was exposed to.

Music is really universal language,

and I don’t speak it,

I don’t understand what they’re saying.

But you see the performance on a TV show,

or you watch the music videos,

it is just something completely different

from what we have been exposed to before.

Umm.. I’m not actively studying or trying to learn Korean,

however, when you’re consuming K-POP and BTS content,

there is text on screen,

and I find myself subconsciously learning parts of the language.

For now, I’m very proud of myself

for being able to recognize certain words.

It’s like...

Jin jja?(Really?)

대박!
Dae bak!(WOAH!)

미안해
Mi an hae(I’m sorry)

That’s something that I just learned from watching content.

So being able to understand that is amazing.

For myself, I’m actually a chef,

so at home, I’ve been starting to use chopsticks

for eating and for cooking.

I’ll eat almost anything with my chopsticks.

I... don’t really like using forks anymore.

And I’ve been learning more about the Korean cuisine.

On a different side, I’m learning more K-POP dances.

And it’s been a lot of fun.

Really enjoy learning the choreography

for the K-POP songs that I enjoy so much.

Especially the BTS ones.

I actually ended up getting the BTS tattoo.

This is a flower from the ‘Love Yourself: Her’ album.

This is how much BTS means to me.

And... It’s a simple tattoo.

Most people won’t know what it means.

But it has special meaning to me,

because I can look at it everyday,

and know that this band has really helped me a lot

and, there, the group, that’s going to stay with me until…

until the end of days, really.

Thank you,

thank you.

Just keep doing what you’re doing because

it’s life-changing for people and just..

It’s amazing how much they are spreading positivity in this world,

and their self-love messages.

Thank you for the good work that you are doing.

I purple you!
