내레이션. 지난 4월 28일, LA한국문화원은 LA에서 활동하는 23명의 미국 작가로 구성된 “이상한 융합: 디딤/헛디딤” 전시를 개최하였습니다.

자막. Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles invited 23 American artists based in Los Angeles to introduce different cultures to the Korean community. The show entitled, “Odd Convergences: Steps/Missteps” began on April 28.

내레이션. 이번 전시는 우리 인간의 삶과 문화 속에서 보이고 또한, 보이지 않는 우리들의 관계를 주제로 하고 있습니다.

자막. It will explore a range of different spaces that are both visible and invisible to us in our relationships to life and culture.

인터뷰.

질문. 이번 전시에 대해 어떻게 생각하세요?

답변. Gul Cagin / Artist

I think this is a great opportunity for LA artists. Nowadays culture exchange is becoming very important in everywhere.

자막. LA 작가들에게 정말 좋은 기회라고 생각해요. 최근엔 문화교류가 굉장히 중요하잖아요.

질문. 이번 전시에 대해 어떻게 생각하세요?

답변. Valerie Wilcox / Artist

I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to really talk about cross cultural artists. Because our group has so many different cultures within this show. People from all over the world and our group really is about doing exchanges with other’s cultures and different countries.

자막. 다른 문화 간의 작가들과 교류할 수 있는 정말 좋은 기회라고 생각해요. 이번 쇼에 참여한 작가들의 문화가 굉장히 다양하거든요. 전 세계에서 모였죠 그리고 저희 작가 그룹이 하는 일이 다른 나라들과 다른 문화를 교류하는 것이기 때문이죠.

질문. 본인과 작품에 대해서 설명 부탁드립니다.

답변. David Leapman / Artist

I have been a professional painter for nearly 40 years. this is a painting from this year. It’s kind of accumulative painting of images I have collected over nearly 4 decades. But I tended to make my images in a very idiosyncratic way. I don't want to illustrate what my work is about. You experience it, it reveals itself slowly.

자막. 전문적으로 그림을 그린 지 40년 정도 되었어요. 이 그림은 올해 그린 그림인데, 40 여 년 동안 수집한 이미지들을 적층시키는 형식으로 그린 그림입니다. 특이한 방법으로 그림을 표현하고자 했어요. 저는 제 작업이 어떤 것인지에 관한 설명은 하고 싶지 않아요. 관객 스스로 직접 경험함으로써 작품 자체가 관객에게 서서히 드러나도록 하는 것이죠.
